Berry & Orange Fruit Salad
From Breakfast Bowl to Simple Dessert
Mix berries and maple syrup
Fresh berries are one of my favorite things to keep in the kitchen during the summer. When the fruit is ripe and naturally sweet, it doesn't need very much added to it.
For this simple fruit salad, I combine strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and fresh orange with a little maple syrup. That's really all it needs.
Prepare fruit salad for summer dessert
I often eat it for breakfast with yogurt and homemade granola, but the same fruit mixture can easily become a light dessert. Add vanilla ice cream, a few tiny meringue kisses, and some passion fruit cream or lemon curd, and suddenly our innocent breakfast has changed clothes and gone to dinner.

Yield:
Make 12-20 pieces
Supplies:
Cutting board
Mixing bowl
scale
pot/ sauce pan
Ingredients
Fresh strawberries
Fresh blueberries
Fresh raspberries
1–2 fresh oranges, preferably seedless
1–2 tbsp maple syrup, or to taste
Steps
Wash the berries gently and drain them well.
Hull the strawberries. Quarter large strawberries or cut smaller ones in half.
Peel the orange and separate it into segments. Cut the segments into smaller pieces if desired.
Place the strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and orange in a bowl.
Drizzle with 1–2 tablespoons maple syrup, depending on the sweetness of the fruit.
Gently toss everything together, taking care not to crush the raspberries.
Serve immediately or chill before serving.
No Waste Tip
Don't throw away those beautiful orange peels. I like to save them for making candied orange peel.
That's such a you detail that I'd absolutely keep it.

Three Ways to Serve It
1. Breakfast
Spoon the berry salad over plain or vanilla yogurt and finish with your homemade granola.
This would be particularly nice in your book because the previous granola recipe now connects naturally to another recipe.
2. Simple Fruit Dessert
Serve the berries chilled in a glass or dessert bowl with a few mini meringue kisses.
Simple, fresh, and especially nice during warm weather.
3. Berry Dessert Cup
For something more special, layer or arrange:
Berry and orange salad
French vanilla ice cream
Mini meringue kisses
Passion fruit cream or lemon curd
Finish with a few fresh berries and crushed meringue.
Now you're also quietly teaching readers dessert composition: fruit + cream + something frozen + something crunchy.
Chef's Note
Choose berries that are ripe and flavorful. If the fruit is naturally very sweet, use less maple syrup.
Add the raspberries last and toss gently because they bruise and break apart easily.
I'd also remove the Grand Marnier suggestion from the main recipe unless it's important to you. The fruit doesn't need it, and your yogurt/granola version gives the recipe a stronger identity.
